Altos are singers with vocal ranges somewhere between a tenor and a mezzo-soprano. A typical alto will have a range from around the F below middle C to the D a ninth above middle C. In four part choral harmony, the alto is the second highest voice. Altos originally sang from music written in the alto clef, but now use the treble clef. In music, a tenor is a male singer with a high voice (although not as high as a countertenor). In four part chorale-style harmony, it is the second lowest voice, above the bass and below the soprano and alto. A typical tenor will have a range extending roughly from the C an octave below middle C to the A above middle C. In a mixed-gender choir, females may also sing as tenors. These are the people who signed up as tenors for the choir.

CHOIRMASTER
Daniel Mier is the choirmaster of Koinonia. "Dan" or "Neil", as he is affectionally called by the members, has been with various choirs around Quezon City (particularly in Fairview and Novaliches proper) for more than 10 years serving as a member and second-in-command whenever the choirmaster was absent. With a vocal registration of a tenor, Mr. Mier felt that he must graduate as a member of a choir and move on as a mentor when he and his family moved out Fairview to reside in the suburbs of Novaliches.
When Koinonia welcomed him as its choirmaster in 2003, Daniel institutionalized the SATB vocal arrangement of the group.
Practicing every voice spectrum is not an easy task for Daniel because not all of the choir's members have background and training in music.
Because of this, he encouraged the members that technical prowess in music is not all there is when someone who worships sing for Him--one must also have the heart to praise Him to the fullest.
He started to patiently teach each voice spectrums their respective melodies before they are finally grouped together to see if harmony is achieved.
A painstaking process but, according to Daniel, hearing the group sing well melts his tiredness away.
The members admit that he is that humble and simple--coming from someone who has no formal training in music but surpasses that of someone who has.
Born on the day after Christmas, Daniel is a graduate of the Metro Manila Colleges in Novaliches and is now working with the Novaliches Development Cooperative. Over the years, the choristers have developed a deeper relationship with Daniel. He is now the "Kuya" (or big brother) they could all depend on.
